Reflecting on the 2020 VCLA Ceremony

On Saturday night we hosted the 2020 Victoria Community Leadership Awards with our signature sponsor The Victoria Foundation. This was our 16th annual celebration of local leadership in the communities of Greater Victoria.

Many elements were familiar - the ceremony, the honour of an address from our Lt Governor, the dazzling venue and truly inspiring stories of local leadership ...

Many elements were new, Covid 19 had us scrambling with - a new month to celebrate (September instead of May), a new venue (at the Empress), a new restriction of people (50 or less), a new layout (everyone 6 feet apart), a new broadcast (LIVE on CHEK Facebook and our Leadership Victoria webpage).

But with all this old and new, one thing remained absolutely the same ... the tireless dedication of sponsors and volunteers who know the value of celebrating local leaders.

When we celebrate our local unsung heroes we inspire future leaders. Taking a moment to recognize one another gives life to the weary and encourages the soul. This pandemic has taken much away from us, we are glad to say it hasn't taken away our passion for the community and bright hope for the future.

To the few who were able to attend in person and to the many more who joined us online (and in the winners private zoom rooms) we join with you in proudly sharing the winners of the 2020 VCLAs.

Finally, we are so grateful for the whole team of volunteers who went so far above and beyond to make this event reality. Your capacity to adapt in the moment and to support our leaders is a pleasure to be part of. Special thanks to Caroline Hudson for leading the team so beautifully!

With great appreciation to our generous Sponsors: The Victoria Foundation
