Covid 19 response

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

We are writing to share an update on how we are addressing COVID-19 as a team.

As the situation continues to develop our first concerns are for the health and safety of our community. While there are many elements beyond our control we are grateful to our community leaders who are working hard to ensure we are given the clear information we need to keep everyone safe.

We know it takes a concerted effort to reduce the spread of this virus. As community leaders we are mindful of our own personal health and how we impact others. We are monitoring the advice of Canada’s Public Health Services, the BC Ministry of Health, and Island Health as our measure for action.

As an organization we are supporting our staff during this time. Our office is now closed until further notice. Our staff and volunteers will meet and work remotely unless necessary. We will continue to connect with the community influencers of Greater Victoria and will meet with our volunteer teams, board meetings and other community connections via video chat or phone calls.

Leadership Victoria Events

Leadership Victoria has a number of upcoming events to highlight local community leaders. To that end Leadership Victoria has made the following decisions:

  • The 2019-2021 Community Leadership Development Program Graduation is POSTPONED to the fall of 2020

  • Meetings and events. All other meetings and events called by LV have been cancelled until further notice

  • Victoria Community Leadership Awards. We ask for your patience at this time as we are considering all options for our upcoming gala to celebrate the 2020 VCLA winners. These notable winners were chosen last week and we are working on our plans to highlight these 2020 winners in significant ways

Supporting the leaders of Greater Victoria

We are very mindful of our community leaders at this time, our medical professionals, political and municipal staffers, emergency services, businesses large and small, as well as our civil societies who support the most vulnerable in our community. Many of these leaders are already working long days and nights; more will need to work even longer shifts during this time. Let’s do our part to support our leaders as they face this approaching issue.

As a charitable organization, we know the impact of this interruption on our sector. This interruption will have a tremendous financial impact on many organizations including LV. We encourage you to continue supporting our local charitable sector during this time. If you would like to support LV, please donate here, we are happy to issue a tax receipt for the full value.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding the direction Leadership Victoria is taking, please get in touch. If you have any supportive suggestion on how Leadership Victoria can best support our community leaders at this difficult time, we would welcome your thoughts. We are all just an email, zoom or phone call away. Reach Mark, our ED at executivedirector@leadershipvictoria.ca or 778 995 5505

In the meantime, please take care of yourself and those in your communities. Sincerely,

Curtis Smith
