Leah Baade

Sarah Bower

With a BFA in Creative Writing (UVIC) and a Master Certificate in Internet Marketing (San Francisco University), Leah works at StepForth Web Marketing Inc. She maintains several blogs and social networking campaigns, which she hopes to benefit her communities.

 

Graduating from The School of Child & Youth Care, led Sarah to the position of Regional Manager for the Ministry of Children & Family Development. She has 20+ years of experience in a variety of roles in both government & non-profit organizations.

Mark Boysen

Nathan Buckham

Mark’s BSc in Geography (UVIC) and Masters’ in Environmental Management (Royal Roads), led to his move to Victoria and take a community-based position with the District of Saanich. He is passionate in leading sustainability projects, climate change & green energy.

Pursuing a career with the B.C. Corrections Branch, Nathan started as a probation officer, to an analyst, and now as Director of Strategic Technology & Corporate Projects. His education is a BA (Sociology) from the College of the Cariboo in Kamloops.

Joann Connolly

Nicola Cooper

Educated in Psychology, sociology & Addiction Studies led to Joann’s work with Victoria Cool Aid Society as Shelter Coordinator. Moving from Newfoundland in ’94, she enjoys reading, walking and camping with her husband and two kids.

Born in England but raised in Ontario, Nicola moved to Victoria in the early 2000s. She has worked in various government levels but has remained in the financial/business sector. She enjoys time with her dogs and likes to be outdoors.

Christine Currie

Janet Geddie

 

A Vancouver Island native, Christine has lived in Victoria since 1980. With 25 years of experience in the Food Service Industry, she moved on to work in the circulation services at the McPherson Library. An enjoyer of volunteering she is very involved in the Victoria community.

With a Business Admin Certificate from Camosun, Janet has worked for Telus starting at the call center and now as the South Island Field Support Manager, managing a team of 18. She is involved with the community through her kids’ sports activities.

Michael Kaye

Sharlene Law

As Assistant Deputy Dire Chief at the Saanich Fire Department. Previously, he served as a communications officer for 12 years, responsible for fire dispatch and I.T. He also volunteers with Muscular Dystrophy Canada where he is on the board of directors.

Growing up in Tsawwassen, Sharlene took the leap over the ocean to start work in Victoria. Starting as Team lead at the Umbrella Society, she is now Executive Director since 2017. Due to personal experiences, Sharlene is very committed to her clients, team, and community.

Nick Mandryk

Jenny McLeod

 

During his time in the program, Nick pursued a career in police work. As a carpenter, he pursued it so through devoting his volunteer time to the Saanich Police Department as a member of the Reserve Constable Program. He enjoys spending time with his family in the outdoors.

Receiving a BA, Major in Anthropology and Minor in Psychology (UVIC), Jenny has also taken the Indigenous Relations Leadership Training Program (Calgary). Previously with United Way during the program, she is now an Alumni Director at Queen Margaret’s School.

Theri (Therese) Nicholson

 Blair Spencer

 

Theri grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and was educated in French. Starting in Ottawa as a Police Officer, Theri moved to Victoria and continued her career with Vic PD. She is now Director of Indigenous Policing of the Policing and Security Branch (BC Gov).

With a BA in Criminal Justice (University of Fraser Valley), Blair started at the BC Corrections Branch as a Probation officer in 2003. Later, he moved onto Senior Probation Officer at the Victoria Community Corrections office.

Michelle Summers

Keira Shumuk

Born in Melbourne Australia, Michelle moved to Port Hardy at 5 years old. She studied business at Vancouver Island University, continuing into the Financial Industry for 10+ years. Her experience has developed her passion for people management & leadership.

Keira has a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology & Exercise Science. She is currently Director, Kinesiologist of Real Fit Personal Training Inc.

 

Karolien Swaak

Zuzanna Szkularek 

Karolien’s BA in Hispanic Studies and Diploma in Intercultural Education & Training and experience working for the Ministry of Labour, has led to her position at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA). She has been singing her entire life and loves musical theatre.

With a bilingual specialized honors BA in International Relations (York University), Zuzanna is also an active volunteer. She has a certificate in volunteer management (Volunteer Victoria) and Certificate in Leadership Management. She is currently Executive Director at HeadWay since 2017.

Sarah Tarnopolsky

Michele Wilson

Born in Manchester, UK., Sarah completed a BA at the University of York. Spending two years working for the Japanese Government after graduation. She came back to Victoria and worked for the Boys & Girls Club and is now currently Communications officer at UVIC.

With 17 years of experience in the financial industry, Michele has experience managing and lending. She has her Mutual Fund, Canadian Securities, and Branch Manager Compliance designations. She is currently Branch Manager at Island Savings Credit Union.

 

Melisa Yestrau

 

Born and raised on the Prairies, Melisa spent much of her childhood on her Grandmother’s farm. She completed a BSc and Masters of Environment (U of Manitoba). In Victoria, she worked for various youth programs and is now working for UVIC as Director of Science Venture.
