Rev. Tom Oshiro, Victoria Mustard Seed Street Church

David Burns

Reverend Tom Oshiro, the director of the Victoria Mustard Seed Street Church and Food Bank, has devoted his life to a ministry of care for the communities in which he has lived. Rev. Oshiro arrived in Victoria as pastor of Royal Oak Baptist Church after in pastoral care in Ontario and mainland British Columbia.   From 1997 to 2009, David Burns was Executive Director of Greater Victoria’s Child and Family Counselling Association. Under David’s leadership, CAFCA created the CAFCA Integral Solutions Society to facilitate services such as family mediation and teen family counseling.

Charlayne Thornton-Joe

Victoria Women's Sexual Assualt Centre

Charlayne is an active participant in the community having served Board Member for the Women’s Transition House, President of the Inter-Cultural Association, and Director of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. Since 2002, she has served with the Victoria City Council. During that time, she has chaired the steering committee for the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness.   For 27 years, the Victoria Women’s Sexual Assault Centre has been leading social change against sexualized violence. The center supports, empowers and advocates for women who are survivors of sexualized violence and childhood sexual abuse and works to end this violence.

Katie Shaw

Laura Walsh

Katie is a highly respected youth mentor, social justice advocate, researcher and facilitator. She has worked in a variety of community-based NGOs focusing on youth engagement, capacity building, and collaborative community development.   Laura is a graduate from UVIC and Moscow State University and is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE). Laura actively mentors young people and provides volunteer service and leadership to numerous organizations and associations throughout Greater Victoria.
