Community Action Projects (CAPs)
- Participants are assigned to Project Action Teams of five to six members to work, in collaboration with a community partner, on a project that will benefit the community.
- This “Learning Lab “ enables participants to apply their skills as a team while creating a difference in the community
- Each team is assigned a coach, whose role is to:
- guide and assist the team in its leadership development;
- ensure that the project chosen by the team is manageable;
- assist in connecting with community partners; and,
- support and guide the team in developing their project from concept to reality.

Individual Mentorship
- Each participant selects personal and confidential mentors for the program’s duration.
- Mentors are community leaders and volunteers who have a wide range of mentoring or coaching experience.
- Mentors provide an opportunity for personal reflection, feedback and assistance for the participant’s individual learning plan.
Learning Framework
- Assists participants to take charge of their own learning, based on the principle that effective leaders recognize that learning and leadership are inextricably linked:
- Me with Me: learning more about self and building personal leadership competence;
- Me with You: learning about self in relation to other individuals;
- Me with Groups: learning how to effectively contribute and lead in small teams and groups; and,
- Me with Community: learning to contribute to and participate in larger communities, e.g. community organizations, political organizations, corporate communities
Graduation
- Celebrates participants in June at the community-sponsored graduation.
- Showcases community projects.
- Acknowledges and thanks community partners.
